Profoto was founded in Stockholm in 1968 by photographer and engineer Eckhard Heine and photography equipment retailer Conny Dufgran. Their relationship began when Conny sold Eckhard a flash unit that didn't work. Annoyed with the faulty unit, Eckhard went home to invent a new type of flash. He returned a couple of weeks later with a superior unit. A few years after that, Eckhard and Conny exhibited the first Pro-1 generator at the Photokina trade show in Cologne. It was an instant success. Profoto was born. With a bang.
Today, our products are used by the best in the industry. Whether it be on a billboard or in a fashion magazine, there's a good chance that the image you are looking at was created with the help of our lights. But even though we continuously refine and improve our equipment, we stay true to Eckhard's and Conny's ideals.
We still believe that a Light Shaping Tool should feel right, sound right and be aesthetically pleasing. Just like the painter's brush or the musicia

I have used Profoto at few events when younger. Great recycling time when taking photos of models. Thanks for showing on another video you can do billboards in train station with 20 mp camera. I always try to keep learning.
I just got some ideas for men project. Well test myself as a model for fun.
Thank you for the videos. Great tips. Wish you great success this year and next year.
Profoto Speed ring compatible?
The videos from the photographer are great and just got few ideas how to do pack shoot as a hobby. Thanks
It good to know that the 20 mp camera can do poster, banner, or bill board at train stations or internet. Thanks for the video.
Here we go
It looks amazing...Kudos to Profoto for always innovating. Super excited to try it out!🔥💡✨
no ballast? wow..
Great product, but alot of photographers still wating for profoto a long time to give us new speedlite updated and very good better then A10 also we need powerfull strobe light with battery we need 600w on battery, we need also better batteries can hold for longer time, we need updated products for wedding photographers, thanks and keep the good work
If this would just Flash it would literally be the one light we all need to have consistency between photo and video on creative sets!
what does eco mode mean that it can "extend the life" of the flash?
Awesome!! Love photo shoots!!
Awesome!! The photos look great.
This is great for a clothing brand updating their E Commerce site every once a while or trice a year.
Amazing!!
Looks good. Good refresher course if doing personal or business campaign.
Happy to hear, Joseph! Stay tuned as we share more beautiful and educational imagery and videos :)
Amazing! So inspirational and perfect being able to see a master create his art! My new fave photographer!!
Albert is one of our favs too :)
I always learn something from the photographer. Awesome!!
It's the continued learning process that helps us each grow as a photographer.
For the first photo, when you used the color CTO gel, may I know what you had set your camera's white balance to?
I attended a few phase one seminars for fun. Awesome people.
With these videos would cut out the obvious statements about photo and cut right to the specifics of how she sets things up, modifiers, lenses…actual technique and information rather than platitudes. But she is inspiring!
We think she is inspiring too! Please visit her Share the Light profile to learn how she gets the shot :) link above
Does it fit Profoto Glass Dome for better performance with Zoom Reflector and Beauty Dish?
Yes
The photographer has great people skills. Remind me when I worked with models when younger.
Would love to see sport theme pushing D3 at high frame rate shooting.
You never know...stay tuned as more photographers push the Pro-D3 to the limits.
I see why they use at events. Reliability, speed, and great at shows or seminars.
I am glad they have these videos if needed or refresher course in retirement. Great work by Profoto, team, and the photographers.
I think I am always always buying something Profoto months before a new one comes out. You guys are so secretive 😭
I wonder how many videos of Chris and Kate are required watching before I qualify for a free Pro-D3 and complimentary softbox set. I should be about there!
Did you know you can gather points in exchange for limited Profoto merch, while learning more about light with other professionals on Share the Light: profoto.com/sharethelight
Fantastic I can see you smiling while using new light! ❤❤❤
how many watts equivalent is the modeling lamp? it doesnt show in the video, i have to search in the website and it says 5600 lumen, but how it compares to the previous D2?
The lamp types Pro-D3 and the D2 are different. The Pro-D3 is a LED and the D2 is Halogen for complete details. Please visit profoto.com/monolights to get the complete details
This looks great, nice to get that power bump and the LED modelling.
Finally it has been unveiled. 1250w is amazing in such a small monoblock.
How many Pro-D3 1250s can I buy in lieu of a single Pro-11 + ProHeads?
Too bad the modeling light is not bi color to match pack modeling lights. I guess daylight modeling lights on pack heads might be next.
You could gel the light. You're welcome to submit your suggestions here: ideas.profoto.com, our product team will keep a look out here
So it’s a more powerful plugin version of the b1x?
Amazing <3
Love Lindsey Adler style
Quality work. Thanks.
Lindsay fan all the way but I think Chris got this one. Both shots are beautiful! The cinematic look won me over.
The way he looked at you 😮😊
Great Video!!
just the best, ssuch an inspiration, from the work to the personal projects. I mean its so great to see this! and profoto for share the light.. its so delicious and satisfying to look at that :D so enjoyable
Great lights!!
Awesome!! I see why pro photographer rent or own your unit.
Sweet!! A Great instructor. Kudos to her and Profoto for a great class.
average images but Jan obviously thinks he's a rock star!
Gimmicky shots and jacked up contrast really hurt the quality of light this video is supposed to be showing off
Agree. Several years ago everyone (entry level at least) was under exposing the ambient 2 stops and over powering the flash. They were also cross lighting the key and the sun, creating popped out cardboard cut out looking subjects with crushed shadows. I’ll often use a flash meter that can show the ratio of ambient to flash exposure and if you keep the flash contribution to between 20-30% of the exposure you’ll never see the flash in the shot and you’ll have open shadows from the ambient. Basically using the ambient light (maybe -1/3 to 1/2 stops occasionally, otherwise a correct exposure) and then the flash becomes more of a contrast boost or a fill depending on position. Anything over 30% flash contribution when mixing outdoor ambient and you’ll notice the flash, especially at 50% or more 😊
Agreed.
Great video showcasing the new modifiers in a fast paced situation.
